Phan Thiet forty years ago. Memories of Vietnam
These photos were taken forty years ago. It was in the fighting following the Viet Cong offensive of Tet, 1968.
That means I was twenty eight or twenty nine at time. Looking back over the years one sometimes wonders what happened to the people in pictures one has taken.
I know I was very detached at the time. No feeling of sorrow or sadness. Fear from time to time certainly. But there was always a cold beer waiting at the camp. A pipe of tobacco in the evening.
A legacy of the war is that I always associate Vietnam with that period in the way that one always associates youth with school.
