I often came across strange vehicles whilst driving around Vietnam. The bottom photo is that of a ready made ditch crossing vehicle or instant bridge. I forget what its technical name was. The other two pictures show relaxed GIs talking to locals. Relations between Americans and the Vietnamese varied greatly. In large towns such as Saigon they were often very poor. There was too much tension. In the countryside it depended on the security situation. Often the Vietnamese didn't dare to be too friendly, sometimes they just loathed them. But then curiously at others they were most friendly. One of the main problems of course was language. I struggled over ten years to get a passable level ov Vietnamese. Perhaps I wasn't too bright. The average GI had no time at all.
