An elegance of the 1920s. Memories of Vietnam

There is a story behind this photo. He was a member of the Vietnamese landowning class that suffered extensively during the thirty five odd years of war against the Viet Minh and Viet Cong.
The family house was destroyed by the French. He was imprisoned by the French. He had served as a minister in the government of national independence when the Japonese had been driven out.

I knew him when he was much older. Younger than I am now, but aged by life. There is an elegance about him when this photo was taken, perhaps the late 1920s, that reminds me of my own father. Both were fanatical about their appearance.

There is a name on the photo. but that is another story to which I think I know the answer. But that was in France.
