More scenes from the river. Memories of Vietnam
Another scene from life on the river. One of the things that appealed to me was the fish. I doubt if I've ever eaten so much fresh water fish in my life. The fact that it appeared fresh in the market each day and then on my plate a few hours later was one of the more agreable aspects of life there.
There were people of course who spent most if not all there lives on the water. If I recollect the Americans had two navies operating there. The blue water navy and the brown water navy. The rivers were in fact full of silt. Being used to the clear blue of the Bahamas I never went swimming in the rivers nor indeed water skiing. There was a club I believe not too far from Saigon but it held no appeal.
